Pets in U.S. State Parks, Forests, Recreation Areas, State Historic Parks & Historic Sites
Alabama State Parks
Pets are permitted in most Alabama state parks. Pets must be crated, caged or upon a leash not longer than 6 feet or otherwise under physical restrictive control at all times. No animal of any type shall be allowed on any beach area in any State Park.

California State Parks
In general, dogs are permitted in most state parks but must be on a leash not exceeding six feet in length at all times.
Encino: Los Encinos State Historic Park
Dogs on a leash are allowed in the park, but are not permitted inside the buildings.
Malibu: Malibu Creek State Park
Dogs are allowed in the park in the day use areas and campground area, but are not allowed on the backcountry trails at the park.

Florida State Parks
Pets are permitted in designated day-use areas at ALL Florida State Parks. They must be kept on a hand-held leash that is six-feet or shorter and be well-behaved at all times. Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets and properly dispose of their droppings. Pets are not permitted on beaches or playgrounds, or in bathing areas, cabins, park buildings, or concession facilities. Within individual parks, specific areas also may be designated as non-pet areas.
Fernandina Beach: Fort Clinch State Park
Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on park, but are not permitted in buildings, boardwalk, or on the beach.
Live Oak: Suwannee River State Park
Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed in the day-use areas.
Georgia State Parks
Pets are welcome at state parks and campgrounds if leashed (no longer than six feet) and accompanied by the owner at all times; however, they are not allowed in or around historic sites, lodges, group camps, swimming areas, or trails at Panola Mountain and Tallulah Gorge. Pets are allowed in select cottages with advance reservations. An additional fee is charged.

Bayview: Farragut State Park
Located 30 miles north of Coeur d’Alene on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho’s largest lake. Dogs are allowed on all hiking trails except down by the beach. Leashed dogs are allowed in campgrounds.

Zion: Illiinois Beach State Park
Pets are not allowed on the beach or in the nature preserve, but are permitted in the campground, in the picnic area, and the remainder of the trails as long as they are on a leash. Pets are not to be left unattended.

Kentucky State Parks
Leashed pets are allowed in park campgrounds and on trails, with the lone exception of the trails at Natural Bridge State Resort Park. Pets are not permitted at any of Kentucky's lodges or cottages.

Maine State Parks
Pets must be on a leash not exceeding four feet in length and must not be left unattended. Pets are not permitted on beaches or in the Sebago Lake State Park campground. Pet owners must immediately clean up any fecal deposits left by their pets. Pet owners may be assigned picnic or campsites in a less congested area of the park.
Maryland State Parks
Many state parks have areas where pets are permitted. Pets are generally permitted in undeveloped park lands outside of the public day use areas. They must be leashed and under the immediate control of the pet owner. Many state parks allow pets in certain areas of the campground as well. Pets are prohibited in some areas for several reasons. Deep Creek Lake State Park
Pets on a leash are permitted on hiking trails and in the campground only. Pets are not permitted at the waterfront area or in the day use area of the park. Pets cannot be left unattended.
Ellicott City: Patapsco Valley State Park
Pets are prohibited in the Avalon, Orange Grove, Glen Artney, Hilton, Hollofield, Pickall and McKeldin day-use areas, as well as the Hilton campground. One camp loop for visitors with pets is available in the Hollofield campground. Pets are welcome throughout the remainder of the park, but they must be leashed at all times.
Flintstone: Green Ridge State Forest
Pets on a leash are permitted in the forest.
Grantsville: Big Run State Pak
Pets are allowed anywhere in the park as long as they are on a leash under control of the owner and not disturbing other park visitors.
Grantsville: Savage River State Forest
Pets on a leash are allowed in all areas of the park.
Havre de Grace: Susquehanna State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in all areas of the park except for the picnic areas, historic area and cabins.
North East: Elk Neck State Park
Pets are allowed at three camping areas and one full hook-up area. Pets on a leash may only be taken from the campsite to the park store and back. Pets on a leash are permitted on 3 of the 5 trails. Pets are prohibited in the day use area of the park including the beach area.
Oakland: Garrett State Forest
Pets are allowed in all areas of the Forest. No leash is required as long as pets are under control.
Oakland: Potomac-Garrett State Forest
Pets are allowed in all areas of the Forest. No leash is required as long as pets are under control.
Queen Anne: Tuckahoe State Park
Pets are allowed in the family camping area and most of the park, except the lake area, as long as they remain on a leash. Call the park for details.
Scotland: Point Lookout State Park
Pets are allowed in all areas of Malone Circle, Tulip Loop, Green's Point Loop, Hoffman's Loop, and on the paved portion of the causeway and on the beach (north of the causeway) to the entrance of Tanner's Creek. They are not permitted in any other day use area or trail, including the beach or picnic area.
Charlemont: Mohawk Trail State Forest
Pets are permitted. Must be on a 10-foot maximum leash and attended at all times. Must have proof of current Rabies vaccine.
Clarksburg: Clarksburg State Forest
Pets are permitted. Must be on a 10 foot maximum leash. Proof of current Rabies vaccination is required.
Williamsburg: DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) State Forest
Pets are permitted except on the sandy beach area. Must be on a 10-foot maximum leash and attended at all times. Must have proof of current Rabies vaccine.
Williamsburg: Windsor State Forest
Pets are permitted. Must be on a 10-foot maximum leash, attended at all times in all areas of park, including trails. Must have proof of current Rabies vaccine.
Michigan State Parks
With few exceptions, pets are welcomed in Michigan state parks, recreation areas and at boating access sites. Pets are not allowed on designated beaches used for wading or swimming.
Mackinac Island: Mackinac State Historic Parks
Pets welcome at all sites, with standard leash and clean-up rules.
Minnesota State Parks
Pets are welcome in state parks but must be kept on a leash of not more than six feet and must be personally attended at all times. Pets are not permitted in state park buildings, lodging, cabins, camper cabins, on tours or in beach areas.

New Hampshire State Parks
Some parks permit pets, some parks permit pets but only in designated areas, and some parks do not permit pets. Please see list of parks on website. Pets are prohibited at all state beaches, picnic areas, and historic sites. In areas where pets are allowed, pets must be leashed and attended at all times.
Franconia/Lincoln: Franconia Notch State Park
Pets are permitted in the designated dog walks near the Tramway and Flume parking lots only, not in the campground.

Copake Falls: Taconic State Park - Copake Falls Area
Dogs are permitted on trails and in the D loop of campground. Dogs must be attended to and leashed (on a leash not more than 10 feet) at all times. Dogs are not permitted in buildings, picnic and bathing areas, and at any other campground/cabin areas.
Grand Island: Beaver Island State Park
Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Not allowed in bathing areas, buildings or on improved walkways and boardwalks.

Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet.
Lake Superior State Park
Dogs only, must be muzzled and on a leash, not more than 6 feet. Not allowed in buildings, camping, picnic or bathing areas or on walkways.
Atlantic Beach: Fort Macon State Park
Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet. Pets are not allowed in the bathhouse or swimming areas.

Oregon State Parks Off-Leash Areas
Pennsylvania State Parks - Pets in Campgrounds
Pennsylvania State Parks allows pets in designated campsites in 25 state park campgrounds. Other state parks will continue to prohibit pets in overnight areas.
Rhode Island State Parks
Pets (dogs and cats only) are permitted in overnight campgrounds in the following state parks and management areas: Burlingame State Park, Fisherman's Memorial State Park and George Washington Management Area.

Tennessee State Parks
Dogs, cats and other pets are prohibited unless they are crated, caged or on a leash, or otherwise under physical restrictive control at all times. Pets are prohibited in park inns or cabins (except where rooms and/or cabins have been designated for pets), lodges, public eating places, food stores, and on designated swimming beaches and pools at all times.
Texas State Parks
Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed in Texas State Parks. Pets are not permitted in the water of a designated swimming area or within the land or beach area adjacent to the water of a designated swimming area.
Utah State Parks
Pets are welcome at most state parks, however, they must be on a maximum six foot leash and not left unattended. Pets are not allowed in buildings, on beaches, or in the lakes or reservoirs. Pets are not allowed at Rock Cliff (Jordanelle).

Virginia State Parks
Pets are welcome in Virginia State Parks but must be on a leash no longer than six feet, or in an enclosed area at all times. A fee must be paid for pets staying overnight in cabins and at campgrounds. Pets aren't allowed in the yurt at Kiptopeke State Park. Pets are denied access through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge to False Cape State Park April 1 through Oct. 31.
Washington State Parks
Pets are allowed in most state parks but must be under physical control at all times on a leash no more than eight feet long. Pets are not permitted on designated swimming beaches.

Wisconsin State Parks
Pets on a leash no longer than 8 feet are welcome in Wisconsin State Parks. Pets are permitted in most campgrounds, trails, roads, and outlying areas of the parks. Pets are not allowed in the following places: Buildings; Picnic areas and picnic shelters; Beaches, except the designated "dogs allowed" beaches listed on the website; Playgrounds; Marked nature trails; Cross-country ski trails when groomed for skiing; Observation towers; Designated "pet-free areas" at: The Devil's Lake South Shore area, except on paved roads and walkways en route to areas where pets are allowed, Pinewoods family and group campground and the west loop of Whitewater campground in Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit, Aztalan State Park, Governor Nelson State Park, Portions of the Nelson Dewey State Park campground, Portions of the Rock Island State Park campground, Portions of the Tower Hill State Park campground; Anywhere in Copper Culture State Park, Heritage Hill State Park, Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area; Paradise Springs Nature Area in Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit; Havenwoods State Forest, except designated areas where leashed pets are permitted.
Ellison Bay, Door County; Newport State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in the park.
Fish Creek, Door County: Peninsula State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in the park.
Stoughton: Lake Kegonsa State Park
Pets on a leash no longer than 8 feet are allowed on hiking trails except on the White Oak Nature Trail ad in the campground but not in the picnic or playground areas or in buildings. A pet swim area has been established. Pets are not allowed at the beach.
Sturgeon Bay, Door County: Potawatomi State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in the park.
Sturgeon Bay, Door County: Whitefish Dunes State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in the park. Pets are restricted to the area of the beach south of the third beach access.
Washington Island, Door County: Rock Island State Park
Pets on a leash are allowed in the park.
