This Mashpee home offers one outrageous guest room. It is spacious, romantic, and very private. It is the perfect location to ask the big question, spend your honeymoon, anniversary or birthday. For those used to beautiful settings, this spot is the perfect place to base yourself for a week of hiking, biking, sightseeing, swimming, boating or just well deserved R&R.

The guest space, the “Carriage Suite on the Cape”, is over the garage and accessed by its own entrance. Situated on an acre of natural Cape Cod land, a 450 foot meandering path leads to the shore of Ashumet Pond. Although Massachusetts calls every freshwater body of water a pond, most would think this a lake as it is 204 acres, almost a mile across and 76 feet deep on the deep side. Luckily, the shoreline is a very gradually sloping sandy beach, so clear guests have a perfect view of the life below. The setting is tranquil, like being “On Golden Pond.”

Your hosts, innkeeper, Barbara Notarius, and husband, Steven Lefton, relocated to Mashpee in 2006. For 25 years, Barbara ran an eight guest room inn, The Alexander Hamilton House, in Croton on Hudson. New York. She calls Ashumet Pond, “the land time forgot.” Swim in the pond from May into October and boat there until almost November. Bring your boat. There is a boat launch a short distance away and enjoy kayaking, sailing or a small motor boat.

We are a few minutes from the Barnstable County Fair Grounds which hosts many events throughout the year.

The Carriage Suite offers a king sized bed, double whirlpool tub and wood-burning fireplace in the bedroom, private bathroom with shower. Cable TV with DVD /iPod dock, small fridge, coffee maker and microwave. A gourmet continental breakfast with yogurt, cereal, fruit, bread and pastries, juice and hot beverage is served in the room. Off street parking. Daily maid service. With advance notice, we can even arrange for a masseuse to come to your room. We have hard wired DSL and Wi-Fi in your suite.

Your hosts have a ten year old Golden Retriever, named Mushy, who will never go in the guest room. She plays well with others and we welcome guests with well behaved dogs who have loving, responsible owners.

We are a dog friendly B&B. That said, you must take your dog with you when you leave the room. We have a large kennel down by the shore so that you can leave the dog safely behind while you are on or in our pond. If the dog barks and will disturb others, you will be asked to keep the dog with you. Should you take your dog to a public beach (not permitted April 1 through September), keep these rules in mind.

Attractions:

Mashpee is only a fifteen minute drive from the Bourne Bridge, conveniently located between Sandwich and Falmouth. This area is called the Upper Cape, with easy access to the entire Cape and near to the ferries to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. New Seabury, Mashpee’s Atlantic Ocean Beach is a short drive from our home. Rtes 6 or 28 are an easy hop to mid Cape or the Beaches at the National Seashore.

Rates:

In season Memorial Day thru Columbus Day Weekend, and holidays and holiday weekends all year $275 a day for double occupancy. Off season $225. $10 a day extra for your dog. We have a single person discount Monday through Thursday except holidays at $100 a day.
