Located at 5001 Hwy 395, Independence, CA 93526, Manzanar National Historic Site is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California’s Owens Valley, between the towns of Lone Pine to the south and Independence to the north, approximately 230 miles north of Los Angeles. It is the site of one of ten camps where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. Pets on a leash are allowed in the park, but are not permitted in buildings, within the fenced cemetery area, or in the visitor center.
